What to Expect

In general, the treatment consists of a combination of acupuncture and tui-na massage. Therapeutic exercises may be added when the patient feels ready, and Chinese herbal medicine may be used to supplement the treatment. Some conditions may respond better to an individual therapy such as tui-na or acupuncture and will be treated appropriately. If a patient is afraid of needles or prefers not to have acupuncture, alternate modalities can be used to treat the condition such as those mentioned above.

The initial treatment, including the comprehensive assessment, usually lasts about one and a half hours. Following the treatment, many people report feeling energized or a renewed sense of well being, while others may feel some soreness as a tender area begins to heal. Some problems may require additional treatments to overcome and follow up appointments usually last about an hour.
